ANTIQUE – Eighty youngsters from 12 to 17 years old in this province were vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) at the launching of such program last week, Nov. 5.
The vaccinations were held at the Out-Patient Department of the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH) in San Jose de Buenavista town.
The Antique Provincial Health Office and the medical staff of ASMGH oversaw the vaccinations.
No adverse events were reported.
The COVID-19 vaccines used were made by Pfizer.
Prior to the vaccination, the youngsters were assessed and given a briefing.
Gov. Rhodora Cadiao said launching signaled that Antique’s 18 local government units may also start vaccinating minors from 12 to 17 years old.
The vaccination venues, however, must be done in hospitals or near hospitals as ordered by the Department of Health (DOH).
“Kasi mga kabataan na. Iban dira comorbid pa. Hinali kon magkaroon sila ng accident or adverse effect ara na sila malapit sa may hospital,” said Cadiao.
There are hospitals in the municipalities of Pandan, Culasi, Barbaza, Bugasong, Valderrama, Sibalom, Dao, and San Jose. Cadiao said the vaccinations may be done by clustering the towns.
She hoped, however, that DOH would allow that vaccinations be done in Rural Health Units (RHU).
