BACOLOD City – His gunpowder burns and the pistol found in his sling bag suggest that a block-time radio host in Sagay City, Negros Occidental shot his wife.
Initial police investigation showed the shooting was an “accident.”
Police are now sifting through conflicting claims from Sagay City Radyo Natin host Moddy “Modi” Andalina, 38, and the driver of the tricycle he and wife Virginia, 29, were riding at the time of the incident.
Andalina and his wife, both of Barangay Himoga-an Baybay, Sagay City, were approaching the national highway on Crossing Martinez, Barangay Poblacion 2 when the accidental shooting happened, police said.
Andalina was armed with a .22 Magnum, said the police.
Hit on the back, Virginia died. She did not make it to the Lopez District Planters Foundation Hospital.
Andalina was allegedly drunk during the incident around 11 p.m. on April 5.
The block-time radio host tried to hide the fact that his wife’s wound was inflicted by his firearm by telling the police they were ambushed, said Chief Inspector Eduardo Corpuz, Sagay City police chief.
Tricycle driver Wilfredo Alor refuted Andalina’s claim. Alor told the police he thought something exploded in his sidecar. Police also saw the pistol inside Andalina’s sling bag and the radio host’s hands with gunpowder burns.
The victim’s mother, Leticia Yones, is filing a parricide charge against Andalina./PN
