ILOILO City – A 19-year-old student arrested for alleged drug peddling in Barangay Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo denied using or selling prohibited drugs.
Wyatt Dominique Gutierrez sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer for P500 and yielded seven more, police said.
“I neither use nor sell shabu,” Gutierrez told Panay News in Hiligaynon. “I don’t own the items seized from me. The police placed them in my pocket and battered me.”
Operatives from the Oton police station and the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit staged the buy-bust at around 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
They also seized from Gutierrez – a resident of Barangay Manhara, San Joaquin town – a lighter, a cellphone and a Toyota Corolla (plate number: PSW 835), which they believe the suspect uses in drug sale transactions.
At the time, Gutierrez said, he was bound for home after attending school on Delgado Street, this city. Two cars and a motorcycle blocked his way when he reached Trapiche, Oton.
Police officers disembarked from the said vehicles and trained their firearms on him. They also battered him before arresting him, Gutierrez claimed.
Chief Inspector Rogelio Ortigas, Oton police head, denied the suspect’s claims.
Two test buys on Gutierrez turned out “positive.” They were supposed to operate against the suspect on Sept. 10 but this did not push through, Ortigas told Panay News.
The suspect, now detained at the Oton police station, is facing charges for selling and possession of prohibited drugs.
Gutierrez was arrested for the same offense in San Joaquin two years ago, police said.
“He was not battered,” Ortigas said. “We even wasted our time bringing him to a hospital in Guimbal for a medical examination after his arrest.”/PN
