BACOLOD City – A total of six colorum passenger vans were intercepted last week by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Negros Occidental, including this capital city.

The LTO Region 6 enforcement teams conducted an undercover operation at the Bacolod North Terminal in Barangay Bata here. It was confirmed that a Toyota HiAce Commuter was illegally soliciting passengers and collecting fares ranging from P130 to P200 for routes to the cities of Cadiz, Escalante and Sagay.

The 48-year-old van driver was issued a Temporary Operator’s Permit (TOP) for colorum operation and reckless driving, while his vehicle was impounded at the LTO District Office in Barangay Mansilingan.

Prior to this, four other illegal vans were apprehended in Bago City and another nabbed en route to the Dumangas port in Iloilo.

Atty. Director Gaudioso Geduspan II, LTO Region 6 director, said the operations are in line with the directive of Department of Transportation acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez to prioritize legal operators and public safety.

On Friday, October 10, the LTO Region 6 also reported intercepting two colorum vans in separate operations in Sebaste, Antique, and Nabas, Aklan./PN
