Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal team up as elite operatives tasked with recovering a stolen billion-dollar fortune in Guy Ritchie’s “In the Grey.”
The film follows Sid (Cavill) and Bronco (Gyllenhaal), who are sent on a dangerous extraction mission against ruthless tycoon Manny Salazar (Carlos Bardem).
The duo’s mission takes them to Salazar’s heavily guarded island fortress, where they confront his private army while navigating a world between legality and crime.
The movie describes the two operatives as men who work “between the moral and the immoral,” operating in the grey areas between black and white.
In a newly released clip from the film, Eiza González said her character Rachel Wild trusts only the characters played by Cavill and Gyllenhaal to keep her alive after years of working together.
Joining the star-studded cast are Rosamund Pike, Fisher Stevens and Kristofer Hivju.
Ritchie, who also wrote the screenplay, said the film was inspired by stories from international lawyers involved in recovering massive debts hidden through shell companies and offshore accounts.
“It’s really a commentary on the murky world of finance,” Ritchie said in the film’s production notes. “It’s about money and law.”
Production for “In the Grey” took place mainly in Tenerife, Spain, with additional filming in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Cavill, who gained wide recognition for portraying Superman in the DC Extended Universe, was last seen in a cameo in “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
Gyllenhaal, on the other hand, who earned critical acclaim for his film portrayals over the years, last appeared in the action remake “Road House.”
Ritchie is known for directing the films “Sherlock Holmes,” “Aladdin” and “The Gentlemen,” among others.
