Elderly woman found dead along Cauayan shoreline

BACOLOD City – A 66-year-old woman was declared dead after she was found unconscious along the seashore in Barangay Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday morning, July 18.

The victim, identified only by the alias “Elena,” was a widow and resident of Purok 1, Barangay Tiling, according to the Cauayan Municipal Police Station (MPS).

Police said a concerned citizen reported the incident at around 8:10 a.m., prompting officers to proceed to the shoreline for verification and investigation.

Initial investigation showed that the woman had left her home at about 5:30 a.m., following her usual morning routine of going to the seashore.

A fisherman, identified as Dandy Lirazan, reportedly discovered the victim lying unconscious along the shoreline while preparing to go fishing. He immediately sought help from nearby residents and alerted the Cauayan Rescue Team and the police.

Residents attempted to revive the woman by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while waiting for emergency responders.

The victim was later brought to Cauayan District Hospital, where the attending physician declared her dead on arrival.

Investigators said the victim’s daughter, identified only by the alias “Connielyn,” informed police that her mother had a history of a mild stroke that affected the movement of her left foot.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, although authorities said no foul play has been indicated as of this writing./PN
