BACOLOD City – A 26-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly stabbed by an intoxicated suspect following a confrontation in Sitio Buringot, Barangay Odiong, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, on Saturday night.
The victim, identified only by the alias “Andoy,” a resident of the area, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Ignacio Arroyo Lacson Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela, Negros Occidental.
A report from the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station (MPS) said the incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. on August 2.
Police said they received a report of the stabbing at about 10:55 p.m. from a concerned resident.
Investigation showed that Andoy was standing near a waiting shed when the suspect, identified only as alias “Danny,” 20, and several companions arrived.
Authorities said Danny, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, became unruly and repeatedly shouted “Inaway!” before a nearby resident attempted to calm the group.
The suspect allegedly punched the resident, prompting Andoy to intervene and defuse the situation.
However, police said Danny allegedly drew a bladed weapon and stabbed Andoy in the abdomen and right arm before fleeing the scene with his companions.
Responding personnel from the Moises Padilla MPS, assisted by members of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect, a resident of Barangay Kamandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, remains at large.
Police have launched a manhunt operation and said appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect.
Authorities also appealed to the public to provide any information that could help in the suspect’s immediate arrest./PN
