KALIBO, Aklan – An elderly woman having trouble getting home got an unexpected help from police trainees.
The woman was strolling alone at the Pastrana Park around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday when field training police officers (FTPs) spotted her.
About 65 to 70 years old, the woman was clad in white blouse and black skirt, and was holding a wooden cane.
The officers approached and gave her bottled water. They asked her if she needed a ride home.
The woman said, “Sa Mercedes.”
After which the officers took the elderly woman by the arm and walked toward the street.
They flagged down a tricycle and paid the driver with their money to bring the woman to Mercedes Village, an interior area in Barangay New Buswang and more than a mile away from the Pastrana Park.
Two FTPs, one of them a female officer, escorted the elderly woman in the tricycle to ensure she got home safely.
All the gray-haired woman, who refused to identify herself, could say was she appreciated the officers’ act of kindness.
The officers who helped the elderly woman were among 35 FTPs on compulsory training here on patrol, traffic and investigation as a requirement for the permanency of their appointments.
The Police Regional Office 6 also deployed 65 other police trainees to Boracay.
They were scheduled to return to Iloilo City on Oct. 27 for their graduation after their six-month training. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
