BACOLOD City – Five people in Negros Oriental lost a total of P26,650 to what they claimed to be an “online scam.”
They were Klin Mendez, 18, of Barangay Looc, Sibulan town; Jane Amor, 21, of Barangay Pulantubig, Dumaguete City; Ivy Ybaran, 22, of Barangay Mangnao, Dumaguete City; Cherry Mae Berongan, 18, of Ma. Christina Street, Dumaguete City; and Zarah Grace Godinez, 18, of Ma. Christina Street, Dumaguete City.
Police identified the suspect as Cara Jane Yonzon of Barangay Bong-ao, Valencia.
The victims claimed they bought low-priced iPhones from Yonzon, but the latter just took their payment without giving them the units.
They transacted on Facebook via the “Bid For Me” page. They met with Yonzon but were told to pay for the units first before the gadgets can be given to them.
Police said Mendez gave Yonzon P6,650 on Aug. 12, 2016; Alaban, P7,500, Dec. 8, 2016; Ybaran, P5,000, May 2016; Berongan, P5,500, Nov. 15, 2016; and Godinez, P2,000, Jan. 17./PN
