AKLAN – Aklan is celebrating its 67th anniversary as an independent province this April, with the theme: “Reinventing Tradition: Aklan in the New Generation”.
April 25 of every year is a special non-working holiday in the province under Republic Act No. 1414, signed by then-President Ramon Magsaysay in 1956.
A thanksgiving mass will be held at the St. John the Baptist Cathedral at 6:30 a.m., followed by a civic-military parade at 7:30 a.m. from Kalibo Pastrana Park to Goding Ramos Park on April 25.
Gov. Jose Enrique Miraflores will lead a commemorative program and the awarding of Outstanding Aklanons at the Gov. Augusto B. Legaspi Sports and Cultural Center at 10 a.m.
Other activities of the month-long celebration are Aklan Sportsfest, a dog show (April 17), the Hinuguran it Akeanon Festival exhibit (April 17–28), the 8th Talibong Festival exhibit (April 17–28), a fish exhibit, Kaean-an sa Kapitolyo (April 17–28), the 2nd Aklan Bonsai show (April 17–26), the Pinta Pasundayag’ art exhibit (April 17–May 5) and the Bangus Deboning, Tilanggit Making, and Fish Smoking (April 18).
The awarding of Outstanding Municipal Treasurer and Taxpayers, Organic Agriculture and Business Plan Preparation took place yesterday, April 19.
Aklan Career Expo Jobs Fair: Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan is set on April 19–20 at the ABL Sports and Cultural Center.
Demos on Flower Arrangement and Demo on Landscaping will be conducted at Capitol Tennis Court today, April 20; Demos on Cactus Propagation (April 21), Grafting/Inarching and Marcotting (April 22 and 27), Demo on Plant Propagation (April 22), Organic Concoction Making and Hands-on Demo on Art Bonsai and Bonseki (April 23), and Value Adding on Mushrooms (April 24).
The ‘Ugsad’ Fashion Show of Miss World Aklan will happen tomorrow, April 21, in front of the Capitol building.
On April 24, the much-awaited Governor’s Basketball Cup and Volleyball Cup opening will be held at the ABL Sports and Cultural Center.
Governor’s Night WVRAA, the ‘Hinaboe’ fashion show, and the launching of the Buhay Ingatan, Droga Ayawan (BIDA) program will be on April 26.
On April 27, there will be a groundbreaking of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) coconut seed farm in Castillo, Makato, Aklan./PN
