AKLAN — Three deaths due to leptospirosis have been recorded in Aklan from January 4 to April 18, 2026, according to the latest data from the Aklan Provincial Health Office.
The fatalities were part of the 33 leptospirosis cases monitored across the province during the same period.
The PHO also reported one death from dengue out of 136 recorded cases.
In its disease surveillance report, the health office logged 132 cases of typhoid and paratyphoid fever, as well as 74 cases of influenza-like illness.
Other recorded cases included 57 instances of hand, foot, and mouth disease; seven cases of measles-rubella; six cases of acute viral hepatitis; and three cases each of acute flaccid paralysis and COVID-19.
One case of diphtheria was also reported.
Despite these figures, the PHO noted zero cases of acute bloody diarrhea, acute meningitis-encephalitis syndrome, chikungunya, and monkeypox in the province during the monitoring period.
Health officials continue to urge the public to observe proper hygiene, avoid floodwaters, and seek early medical consultation to prevent the spread of infectious diseases./PN
