MANILA – From 13 points down, Alaska Aces completed a run to beat GlobalPort Batang Pier 105-98 in the PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Aces slowly cut into the huge third-quarter deficit behind Jeron Teng and Elvin Jake Pascual and snatched the lead 90-88 on an inside hit by Calvin Abueva.
Batang Pier regained the advantage 91-90 on a Stanley Pringle shot but Aces quickly got the lead back 93-91 on scores from Kevin Racal and Abueva. GlobalPort managed to force overtime on a Pringle layup.
With scores tied at 96-all, Aces came up with back-to-back hits from Vic Manuel for a 100-96 advantage. Free throws from Chris Exciminiano and Manuel sealed the win for Alaska.
Manuel led the charge with 21 points while Chris Banchero and Jvee Casio posted 16 markers apiece. Aces (6-2) moved up to second place in the standings.
Pringle top-scored with 28 points while Sean Anthony had double-double 21 points and 12 rebounds for Batang Pier (3-4).
Meanwhile, Rain or Shine Elasto Painters brushed off all off-court distractions to score 90-84 over Meralco Bolts at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Chris Tiu scored 18, Eduardo Daquioag added 16, and Beau Belga and Negrense James Yap posted 13 points each for Painters, which tied with TNT KaTropa (4-3)./PN
