EXPECTING a huge fan base in Iloilo, head coach Noel Marcaida is excited for Kaya Futbol Club’s impending move to the province for the 2018 Philippines Football League.
Ilonggo football fans would appreciate Kaya since a number of its players are from Iloilo and the nearby Negros Occidental, Marcaida told Panay News.
“Personally I’m excited to play our home game in Iloilo,” Marcaida said. It’s an honor as a coach of a team to represent Iloilo in this PFL season.”
Among Kaya’s players from Iloilo are Shirmar Felongco and Joven Bedic. Jayson Panhay, Janrick and Jalsor Soriano, and newly signed Camelo Tacusalme are from Negros Occidental.
“Another thing I am looking forward to is our match-up with fellow Visayas teams Ceres Negros and Global Cebu,” said Marcaida.
Their partnership is set to be formalized when Kaya and Iloilo province sign a memorandum of agreement on Tuesday.
Kaya is one of the oldest active football clubs in the Philippines. Established in 1996, it became one of the founding members of the United Football League in 2010.
The Santi Araneta-supported squad has one UFL championship under its belt and one international tournament appearance, during the 2016 AFC Cup.
Last year Kaya made University of Makati as its home court in the PFL. The club finished on third place in the elimination round but was booted out by Ceres Negros in the semifinals./PN
