ILOILO City – Good news to the residents of Arevalo district.
All of the district’s nine indigenous or local cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have recovered.
The last to successfully overcome the disease was Patient No. 78, a 43-year-old female.
She was officially confirmed by the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6 to have completely recovered on June 12.
The eight other cases who recovered much ahead of Patient No. 78 were the following:
* 37-year-old male (Patient No. 104)
* 39-year-old female (Patient No. 93)
* 33-year-old male (Patient No. 85)
* 46-year-old male (Patient No. 88)
* 55-year-old female (Patient No. 73)
* 57-year-old female (Patient No. 79)
* 48-year-old female (Patient No. 80)
* 48-year-old male (Patient No. 66)
According to DOH-6, a COVID-19 case is indigenous or local if the patient has no history of travel to areas with COVID cases, not an overseas worker and not a locally stranded individual. The patient contracted the disease through local transmission / close contact with someone infected with the disease.
On May 6, Arevalo recorded an initial five COVID-19 cases in Barangay Sto. Niño Sur. Mayor Jerry Treñas immediately placed the village on a 72-hour lockdown.
The district’s – and barangay’s – first cases were a driver of the Iloilo City Emergency Responders, three barangay health workers and the bookkeeper of the barangay council.
During the three-day lockdown, barangay residents stayed in their homes. Offices and businesses were closed. Quarantine passes were suspended and so was transportation (private and public).
There was also mandatory COVID testing on all high-risk and medium-risk contacts of the COVID-19 positive cases conducted by the City Health Office.
People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales./PN
