ILOILO City – Vice Gov. John Edward Gando of Guimaras is on home quarantine.
He made the decision himself after learning that eight doctors of St. Paul’s Hospital of Iloilo tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
According to Gando, he was at the hospital for some laboratory tests and ultrasound on June 26 – two days before the Department of Health (DOH) made the announcement about the eight doctors’ positive COVID-19 test results.
His going on voluntary quarantine is an adherence to the safety protocols that the provincial government of Guimaras set, Gando told Panay News.
“I have no close contact with the doctors. Ang na atubang ko staff man lang kag wala man ako nagtinir. But we have to comply with the protocols,” Gando stressed.
Earlier, DOH Region 6 director Dr. Marlyn Convocar issued this public advisory: “The public is hereby advised to immediately contact DOH Western Visayas, the City Health Office and/or their respective local government units through Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs) if they have visited (St. Paul’s Hospital of Iloilo) from June 23-28.”
They were advised to go on home quarantine for 14 days.
“Any flu-like symptoms such as fever, difficulty of breathing, and/or cough should be immediately consulted with physicians or reported to the nearest health facility. Confirmatory testing for close contacts shall follow DOH Department Memorandums 2020-0258,” according to Convocar./PN
