ILOILO City – A police officer in Estancia, Iloilo was found dead in the comfort room of the municipal police station’s female jail yesterday.

Troubled by an administrative case he was facing, Police Officer 1 James Aguimod committed suicide by hanging, his colleagues said.

His body was discovered by Police Office 2 Ian Wynn Jover at around 8:45 a.m.

Aguimod was found with a black cable wire tied around his neck and to the grills of the comfort room’s window, said Chief Inspector Jonah Galicha, Estancia police chief.

The night before, Galicha and Aguimod talked about the administrative case the latter was facing before the Regional Internal Affairs Service.

“He (Aguimod) told me that he was asked to appear at the hearing but failed to show up,” said Galicha. “He was asked to explain but he failed to do that as well.”

Galicha said they have found no foul play in Aguimod’s death. It was plain suicide, he stressed.

The death shocked the Estancia police station.

Aguimod was a good person “but he was very fond of cockfighting,” the police chief said.

His administrative case actually stemmed from an incident at a cockpit, Galicha said without delving into the details.

Aguimod, a 48-year-old married officer, lived in Barangay Poblacion Zone II, Estancia.

But he has been separated from his wife because of his vice, said Galicha.

They had two children – a son who was staying in Davao and a daughter who was living with the mother in Negros.

The police officer’s body was taken to a funeral home in Estancia./PN
