A TELEVISION adaptation of the fantasy novel and film “Ella Enchanted” is in early development at Disney+, with Anne Hathaway attached as an executive producer.
The upcoming series is based on the novel “Ella Enchanted,” which previously inspired the 2004 movie starring Hathaway as Ella of Frell, a young woman cursed with obedience.
Deadline reported that the series adaptation will take a different approach from the film and lean more closely into the tone of the original novel.
The story follows Ella after her mother’s death as she attends boarding school, uncovers secrets surrounding her curse, and develops feelings for a prince.
Ilana Wolpert is set to write the series, while Beth Schwartz will serve as showrunner. Both are also executive producers alongside Hathaway, her husband Adam Shulman, and Jonathan Rice.
No casting announcements or release date have been revealed as the series remains in early development.
Hathaway is fresh from the success of “The Devil Wears Prada 2.” The actress’ 2026 slate includes the upcoming release of Christopher Nolan’s epic “The Odyssey,” the Colleen Hoover thriller “Verity” and another legacy sequel, “The Princess Diaries 3.” (Jessica Ann Evangelista © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
