SAN JOSE, Antique – Starting today the province will hold several activities in observance of the Children’s Month.
The provincial Child-Friendly Movement (CFM) will launch the observance at EBJ Freedom Park, with Gov. Rhodora Cadiao and Provincial Board member Egidio Elio on the lead.
This year’s theme “Isulong: Kalidad na Edukasyon Para sa Lahat ng Bata” focuses on attaining education for all children, said Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Juliana Cepe, cochair of the CFM.
“While we give emphasis on education, other rights — development, survival, protection, and participation — are equally important,” said Cepe.
On Nov. 9 representatives from the Department of Education – Division of Antique will discuss their initiatives and accomplishments in promoting children’s rights to education in a local radio program.
On Nov. 24 Cadiao will also deliver the “State of the Children” report before local officials, parents, government and private employees, children, and child’s rights advocates at a mall here.
Other activities include the launching of the social media account of the CFM, Zumba for kids, school symposiums on the Philippine National Police’s child abuse prevention campaign “Good Touch, Bad Touch,” and gender and development sensitivity trainings.
During a culmination program the provincial government will also honor exemplary children.
November of every year was declared the National Children’s Month under Republic Act 10661, or the National Children’s Month Act of 2015.
The observance commemorates the adoption of the United Nations Assembly on the Convention on the Rights of the Child on Nov. 20, 1989. The Philippine government is a signatory to the treaty. (PIA/PN)
