ILOILO City – The Antique Goat Raisers Association (AGRA) was assisted by the Small Ruminant Raisers Association (PSRRA) to foster linkage and transfer technologies among small ruminant raisers.
“The birth of AGRA marks the foundation of a strong goat industry in the province of Antique,” said Sixto Chua Jr. president of PSRRA. According to him, Antique’s major commodity is goat.
“Improving the native stocks will be made easy through artificial insemination and buck exchange with AGRA. The PSRRA, together with the Department of Agriculture (DA) -Livestock Sector, are willing to assist the AGRA on forage establishment, breeder stocks, housing, cultural management and marketing,” Chua added.
Chua also stressed that AGRA members are encouraged to realize their purpose, commitment, cooperation and dedication and should maintain not less than 10 does and one buck to sustain the growth of the industry.
On the other hand, the demand for chevon is increasing regionwide with the proliferation of restaurants serving goat delicacies.
Chua also underscored opportunities in goat raising not only in meat but also in dairy and the goat’s milk by-products./PN
