SAN JOSE, Antique – A regional assessment team led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) validated local government units in Antique shortlisted for the Regional EXCELL Awards.
The provincial government of Antique (Provincial) and the municipal government of San Jose de Buenavista (1st- to 3rd-Class Municipality) are vying for awards, said Oscar Lim Jr., cluster head of DILG-Antique.
EXCELL Awards is also known as the Search for Excellence in Local Governance Awards.
Starting in 2008, it hopes to recognize local government units (LGUs) that showed exemplary performance and innovations in promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.
DILG regional director Anthony Nuyda said the Awards pursues innovative programs in all facets of governance — administrative, social, economic, and environmental.
This year the assessment areas were expanded to include the public fiscal management tool of the Department of Budget and Management, anti-smoking program, rabies campaign, and Operation Listo and tourism indicators.
Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Juliana Cepe is optimistic of the result of the validation.
Cepe said they put their best effort to comply with the requirements and engaged various agencies and organizations.
The Best Performing LGUs will be given a plaque of recognition and a P20,000 cash prize. Runners-up will also receive a plaque of recognition.
The winners will be honored during the DILG’s Pagdayaw 2016 in December. (PIA/PN)
