ILOILO City – A new payroll system of the city government will prevent financially hard-up employees – regular or casual – from pawning Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to loan sharks.
Under this new system, the employees’ ATM cards would also serve as their city hall identification cards (IDs) to be used when they log in and log out of office.
Currently, a city hall employee logs in or logs out through the biometrics system only.
“This ATM card that doubles as an ID should be in the employee’s possession all the time,” according to City Administrator Hernando Galvez.
The new payroll system will start next month. The system provider is the state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines.
“We are confident this payroll scheme will benefit our employees,” said Galvez.
Some city government employees resort to pawning their ATM cards because of their immediate need for cash.
The release of salaries would also become faster and not delayed, said Galvez./PN
