KALIBO, Aklan – The Environment department awarded to the Philippine Army the title for the 10.3 hectares that Camp Major Jesus M. Jizmundo occupies in Barangay Libas, Banga town.
No less than Environment secretary Roy Cimatu – a former Army brigade commander in Aklan – recently turned over the title to the Army.
In a speech, Cimatu told the 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) soldiers that he had worked in curbing rebel activities in the hinterlands of Ibajay, which used to be a “hotspot.”
At the time he knew Florencio Miraflores, the town’s mayor and now governor of the province, Cimatu said.
“With this title, the regular and reserve component of the [Army] can now officially say that the real owner of this camp is the [Army] and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in general,” said Lieutenant Colonel Rommil R. Abayon, administrator of Camp Jizmundo.
In addition, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office donated 131 pieces of confiscated mahogany lumber – a total of 702.99 board feet – to be used for repairs and constructions in the military camp.
A simple ceremony for the awarding of the land title and the lumber donation was held at the Camp Jizmundo grounds.
Major General Jon Aying, 3rd Infantry Division commander, received the land title while Lieutenant Colonel Vener Morga, 12IB commander, accepted the lumber donation. (With DENR Region 6/PN)
