The Youth Advocates through Theatre Arts, Philippines will host the Asian Youth Theatre Festival (AYTF) 2021 on November 18 – 21, 2021.
The AYTF 2021 festival is a four-day event showcasing youth theatre groups from across Asia, featuring fourteen (14) original performances and eleven (11) workshops. The 11 Asian countries will be represented through exciting performances like collaborative performances, open mic, and regional singing competitions.
Artistic Concept
The festival concept is driven by the desire to share ideas, methodology, and pedagogical approaches with young artists around the region, to enlighten, challenge and empower them, with the ultimate aim of progressing the theatrical and artistic landscape within the region.
Over four days, theatre collectives will share their differing perspectives and response to the theme, COLOURS OF ASIA, through performance, workshop and dialogue.
Each performance and workshop will be based on each country’s interpretation of the theme.
The Asian Youth Theatre Festival aims to provide a bridge between cultures to connect and unite youths in theatre and serve as a tool for building the next generation of Asian artists.
The Youth Advocates through Theatre Arts
The Youth Advocates through Theatre Arts hosted this AYTF 2021 to educate and empowers young people to use theater as a vehicle of change and to offer a platform for youths to share their art form and connect on multiple artistic levels.
It also leads to the creation of a stronger network of Asian artists to further the development and practices of theatre within the region. It is also aiming to use the arts to tackle social issues relevant to the region.
The participants
The participants will include the 11 regional theatre companies and its aim to showcase both the parallels and diversities between our countries to help create a dialogue that contributes to the growth of each nation.

The BUDS THEATRE from Singapore will also be joining. Buds Theatre has been at the forefront of developing theatre programs specifically targeted at youth, for youth. Established in 2007, Buds Theatre provides platforms for young theatre practitioners to practice their craft and hone their skills. Their incubator program, Buds Youth Theatre, receives much recognition and respect in the industry, creating avenues for youths to showcase their talent.
The program
Each theatre company will be presenting a 15- 30 minute videoed performance based on the theme, Colours of Asia. A discussion regarding the subsequent issues will follow afterward, led by Youth Ambassadors. In addition, each theatre company will also stage a specialist workshop sharing their art forms.
Public Benefit
The issues discussed within the plays are universal. Members of the public are likely to identify with the storylines either from a personal perspective or through a friend or family member. The plays are intelligent, witty, and moving. The characters are well-formed and accessible. The themes and issues raised are reflective of today’s society. Gives access to the region.
