BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this city turned down the certificates of candidacy (COC) filed by three Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) council member aspirants for the October polls.
The aspirants were residents of barangays 11, 20, and 5.
Comelec officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said two aspirants who filed their COCs on Aug. 28 were overaged.
An SK aspirant should be 18 but not more than 24 years old on Oct. 30.
“Dapat indi sila [SK aspirants] maglapaw sa 24. Magsiling ka 24, dapat indi 24 and one day old kundi 24 years old ka gid that day,” said Atty. Dennis Ausan, Comelec Region 6 director, in a separate interview.
The other aspirant, who filed a COC yesterday, Aug. 29, was also rejected because the person has a relative who is an incumbent barangay official.
Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental province, is politically subdivided into 61 barangays.
As of the Aug. 28 record of the city Comelec, 51 filed COCs for barangay captain, 447 for barangay council member, 51 also filed for SK chair, and 288 for SK council member.
Election offices are open until Sept. 2, including Saturdays, to accept COCs./PN
