BACOLOD City – The Christmas lights at the Bacolod Public Plaza and the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) were simultaneously switched on during ceremonies on Dec. 15, the eve of the traditional misa de gallo (dawn mass) or Simbang Gabi.
The program, held at the plaza only, started at 6 p.m. with the Visayan Maritime Academy Chorale singing Christmas songs.
Afterwards, Mayor EvelioLeonardia and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran delivered their respective Christmas messages.
The Barangay Singcang-Airport MassKara dancers, which won first runner-up in the 2016 Electric MassKara performing float competition, rendered a special number.
The countdown to the switch-on at the plaza and BCGC followed.
After the switch-on, there was a fireworks display featuring Peacock Fireworks, the champion in the “2016 Sadya ang MassKara with Mayor Bing”, the 1st Mayor Evelio Leonardia Invitational Fireworks Competition held in October.
The Third Spin Band, on the other hand, held a mini-concert to cap off the ceremonies.
The lighting-up of the trees at the public plaza were sponsored by several groups from the private sector./PN
