BACOLOD City – The city government is considering closing half of Father M. Ferrero Street in Barangay 12 to accommodate the displaced Manokan Country vendors.
This comes after the complaints of stall owners that despite the free temporary space provided for them, the area could not accommodate more customers.
According to City Legal Officer Atty. Romeo Carlos Ting Jr., Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez ordered Councilor Celia Flor to craft an ordinance on this.
Flor, the chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on markets and slaughterhouse, also said that closing half of Fr. Ferero Street could give stall owners extension areas for additional seating capacity.
Earlier this month, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said that the 26 vendors from the Reclamation Area have 30 days or until July 5, 2024 to transfer to the temporary space provided by the SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SPHI) at the parking area of the SM City Bacolod, just across the Manokan Country.
SPHI leased the city’s 16,875-square meter property, including the Manokan Country. And effective this month, the Manokan Country will be demolished due to the redevelopment project./PN
