BACOLOD City – The local government of Bago City once again welcomed the New Year with their famous fireworks display.
The Lights of Bago – which was now on its 10th anniversary – highlights its fireworks display that is accompanied with some popular songs.
To welcome 2018, the organizers played the songs “We are the world,” “One love,” “One day,” “One call away,” “Lean on me,” “Change the world,” “Everybody wants to rule the world,” and “Fireworks” in sync with the fireworks display at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Sports Complex in Bago City, Negros Occidental on New Year’s Eve.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo led the year-end affair. He said the fireworks display – which was already institutionalized by the local government during Vice Mayor Ramon Torres’ term as mayor – has been a local annual tradition.
Yulo said they expected a low turnout of attendance on Sunday evening due to the bad weather but many still attended.
Councilor Andrew Martin Torres, chairman of the Lights of Bago 2018, said they have doubled the budget for the affair this year. Last year was P500,000.
The event’s theme was “Peace, Love and Unity.”
Yulo added that the fireworks display has helped put the city in the tourism map of Negros Occidental. He stressed that the event also helped in improving the local economy./PN
