GUIMARAS — This island province achieved a milestone in public safety after securing 100 percent barangay participation in Project RTT 3389 (Restrict, Track, and Turn-In), collecting a total of 101 loose firearms across all its 98 barangays.
Under the initiative, every single barangay in the province successfully turned in at least one unregistered or loose firearm, showcasing strong cooperation with the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
The municipality of Buenavista led in surrendered firearms, turning in 37 guns across its 36 barangays. Nueva Valencia followed with 22 firearms from 22 barangays, while Jordan, San Lorenzo, and Sibunag each turned in 14 firearms.
PRO-6 credited the accomplishment to the close coordination among local police units, municipal government officials, barangay leaders, and residents.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Randulf I. Tuaño lauded Guimaras for setting a benchmark in community-led peace initiatives.
“Ang pagkamit ng 100 porsiyentong participation ng mga barangay sa Guimaras ay malinaw na patunay na handang makiisa ang ating mga mamamayan kapag ang usapin ay kaligtasan ng kanilang komunidad,” Tuaño said.
Tuaño urged remaining gun holders across Western Visayas to voluntarily surrender unregistered firearms to the nearest police station, emphasizing that removing illegal weapons directly protects families./PN
