BELA Padilla admitted that she does not share the same political and personal beliefs as her uncle, Sen. Robin Padilla.
In an interview with journalist Karen Davila on her YouTube channel, Bela said she disagrees with “99 percent” of the senator’s ideologies.
“Actually, I don’t think I agree with 99 percent of the things he has been fighting for recently, or the ideologies he has,” she said.
The actress and director noted that their differences partly stem from religion, as Robin is Muslim while she is a Jehovah’s Witness.
“I think with that, our base of our principles are already very different. Religion does play a big factor in how a person thinks,” Bela explained.
Despite their opposing views, Bela described her uncle as “one of the kindest and most generous people” she has ever known
“He is so nice. He’s very generous. He has such a good heart, but I would do things differently. We’re different people,” said the actress.
Robin recently made headlines for a clip showing him with an extended finger gesture while singing the national anthem at the Senate. He later clarified that he outstretched his index finger, which has a meaning in Islam, and not his middle finger, as netizens claimed.
Bela also reflected on her years of living in London, which she said opened her eyes to how much the Philippines still lacks “efficiency and global awareness.”
