CEBU City – The provincial government has developed and introduced a biometric system at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) for profiling of inmates and their guests.
Primarily the system will enable the CPDRC management to control access in the facility, including conjugal rooms for guests and cells for inmates, according to the warden, Dr. Gil Macato.
Jail personnel will also have updates on the inmates’ case status and conditions, said Macato.
Macato, who used to work for the National Bureau of Investigation Region 7 as medico-legal officer, joined the Cebu provincial government on Oct. 10 and was appointed CPDRC warden on Nov. 11.
Capitol workers assigned at the CPDRC are taking every inmate’s photograph, index fingerprint, background information, and names of their guests.
Details of at least 500 inmates have been entered in the system as of Nov. 29.
At present the jail management was completing the profiling of 2,831 inmates.
“This (system) will serve as data bank on inmates and their guests,” which investigators from capitol or any agency may use upon request, said Macato.
Guards assigned at the entrance gate are entering the information on the inmates’ guests in a computer, Macato said.
Visitors undergo a similar process using a second computer upon entering the facility.
