ILOILO City – Motorcycle-riding robbers divested a businesswoman of P300,000 cash in Barangay Padios, Sara, Iloilo.
Police have yet to identify who robbed the 42-year-old resident Sandra Delariarte, who owns a grocery store at the Sara public market that has a branch in Ajuy town.
Delariarte was on her way home on board a tricycle at 8 p.m. on June 17 when the facemask-wearing robbers waylaid her, said Senior Inspector Gilbert Baldevarona, Sara police chief.
The back rider poked her with a firearm and ordered her to hand over the money. The suspects then fled toward the town proper, Baldevarona said, citing investigation.
“The money was her income from the grocery stores,” said Baldevarona. “The victim was helpless. She was the only passenger at the time.”
Officers from the Sara police station and the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Intelligence Division were searching for the suspects.
Someone may have tipped off the suspects that Delariarte was carrying a huge sum of money, Baldevarona said.
Baldevarona appealed to businesspeople in Sara to take extra precaution when they have to travel with huge amounts of cash. Police officers may accompany them if necessary, he said.
“Not all barangays have police detail. I appeal to business owners to inform us if they need security escorts,” he said./PN
