ILOILO City – Barangay officials in Iloilo province were joining the hunt for suspected drug lord Richard “Buang” Prevendido.
This developed as police started saturating this city with photographs of the “national high-value drug target” from Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
Liga ng mga Barangay Iloilo chapter president Pablito Gemarino called for a meeting with municipal Liga presidents yesterday and discussed, among others, how they could assist the authorities.
“Importante man ini nga issue nga dapat hatagan sang emphasis,” Gemarino told the press right before the meeting.
“Para makabugtaw man ang mga nagakatulog nga mga kapitanes sa ila responsibilidad sa ila kabaranggayan,” he stressed.
More than a million peso is up for grabs for any civilian who could give information that will lead to the arrest of Prevendido.
Municipal Liga presidents, being leaders of the umbrella organizations of village councils in local governments, have a big role to play in preventing crimes, especially those involving illegal drugs, said Gemarino.
Drug trafficking is a problem facing not only the authorities but the entire community, the provincial Liga president said.
Gemarino, a resident of Guimbal, Iloilo, urged his fellow barangay captains to actively help arrest all persons wanted for drug-related offenses, not just Prevendido.
“Ang campaign sang gobyerno [batok] sa illegal drugs is very significant,” he said.
He believes the intensified antidrug drive should have started long before the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Dapat sang una pa,” Gemarino stressed. “Bal-an man naton ang effect sang droga sa society.”
Prevendido has a P1,050,000 bounty on his head.
The Iloilo city and provincial governments — through their respective Peace and Order Councils — offered P500,000 each as reward.
The Police Regional Office 6, on the other hand, offered P50,000.
Gemarino believes raising bounties is a big help in fast-tracking the arrest of Prevendido and other drug personalities.
On Thursday the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) started posting photos of Prevendido.
Currently they are saturating conspicuous areas in the metro, said Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso, city police director.
Police also asked several media organizations to help spread the photographs in their respective social media pages.
Printed on Prevendido’s photos is an ICPO contact number that informants may reach.
