BACOLOD City – Tow-away zones in the city will be identified by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) after they are approved.

City Ordinance No. 09-17-818 seeks to establish tow-away zones on various streets in the city and allows the city government to impound vehicles by issuing receipts and providing penalties to violators.

BTAO head Luisito Acebuche presented the proposed tow-away areas before the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) during its regular session last week.

The proposed areas were recommended by SP committee on transportation chairman Dindo Ramos and the BTAO, Acebuche said.

The ordinance will be implemented after Mayor Evelio Leonardia approves the proposed tow-away zones.

Acebuche said the approved tow-away areas must be “appropriately painted to forewarn motorists.”

The proposed areas include the Araneta Street as Zone 1 (Red Zone) and Lacson Street as Zone 2 (Yellow Zone).

Under the ordinance, towing fees range from P1,000 to P1,400. For the first four kilometers, a base fee of P1,000 will be incurred for light vehicles including those three-wheeled, P1,200 for medium vehicles and P1,400 for heavy vehicles.

An additional P150 on top of the base fee will be also collected from violators for every kilometer travelled from the towing area to the impounding yard.

For the first and second months, a daily storage fee of P150 will be collected, P300 for the third and fourth month and P450 for the fifth and sixth month.

Vehicles unclaimed after the sixth month will be auctioned and its proceeds will be used to compensate the owners’ unpaid fees and the administrative fees for the auction./PN
