CAMILLE Prats looked back on what led her to audition for the role of Princess Sarah.
In an episode of Kami Ang Inyong Mga… Podcast, Camille recounted her journey in the entertainment industry, sharing that she entered showbiz at 4.
“I started young, [at] 4 Little Miss Philippines. [At] 7, I was doing ‘Ang TV,’ that’s 1992. [In] 1993 I was so fortunate and blessed to get that role. So, I was 8 years old when I started there. So iyon ‘yung kina-busyhan ko,” she recalled.
Camille shared that when auditions for Princess Sarah began in 1994, she initially had no plans of trying out for the role.
“[In] 1994 was when they were auditioning the lead role for Princess Sarah and I wasn’t even auditioning for the job,” she revealed. “Kasi nga may ginagawa na akong show and gusto nila bagong mukha. And then my hair that time was the same hair as Princess Sarah,” she said.
According to the actress, someone eventually encouraged her to audition after noticing her resemblance to the animated character.
“And then somebody just said, ‘Bakit hindi mo subukang mag-Princess Sarah eh kamukha mo siya?’ My eyes are like so black and big. Ang comparison kasi ‘yung cartoons eh. [Sabi sa akin], ‘Parang kahawig mo.’ Cartoon siya sumikat sa Pilipinas. Tuwing hapon siya pinapalabas,” she recalled. “So nag-audition ako for it and I got the part in 1994.”
Reflecting on her journey in the entertainment industry, Camille shared that becoming an actress had been her dream even as a young child.
“I would remember, sa Sta. Mesa kami nakatira eh. Sa Centerpoint… SM Centerpoint pa siya noon… Across that may mga billboards na showing na pelikula. Nung time na ‘yun painting siya… And I would look at it and I’d be like, ‘Darating ‘yung araw malalagay diyan ‘yung mukha ko,‘ at 4 years old, at 5,” she shared.
When Princess Sarah was released, Camille said she was amazed to see that childhood dream come true after spotting her face on a giant billboard.
“When Princes Sarah was out, dun pa rin kami nakatira sa Sta. Mesa, at pagdaan ko nakita ko ‘yung mukha ko sa billboard. Parang it caught me by surprise kasi hindi ko siya naisip na I wanted that as a child and I saw my face and it was a painting and it looked like me and I did it. I’m there and I was 9 or 10 and the dream was like I was 4,” she stated.
Camille also credited her mother’s determination and support for helping her build a career in show business despite not having any industry connections.
