ILOILO City – All 473 barangays in Capiz province joined Police Regional Office 6’s (PRO-6) “Project RTT 3389” (Restrict, Track, and Turn-In) campaign, resulting in the surrender and accounting of 550 loose firearms.
Data from the Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO), led by Provincial Director Colonel David Cachumbo, showed that operating units coordinated with local and village officials across all 473 barangays between August and September 23 to execute the initiative.
The campaign yielded 399 short firearms and 151 long firearms, all of which were turned over to the province’s 17 municipal police stations.
Cachumbo expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation and assured that local police will continue working closely with barangay leaders to encourage remaining gun holders to turn in unregistered weapons before law enforcement operations are launched.
“We are thankful that the community, especially those who possess guns, cooperated with us, resulting in 100 percent participation,” Cachumbo told Panay News.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño commended the CPPO, local chief executives, and barangay officials for the program’s success.
“Maraming salamat sa ating mga kababayan sa Capiz sa inyong buong suporta sa kampanyang ito. Sa ating mga local government officials, barangay officials, at sa buong komunidad ng Capiz, ang inyong pakikiisa at tiwala ay mahalagang bahagi ng tagumpay ng RTT 3389,” Tuaño said.
The region’s top cop added: “Ang pagkamit ng 100 porsiyentong barangay participation ay malinaw na patunay ng epektibong pagtutulungan ng kapulisan, lokal na pamahalaan, at komunidad. Ang 550 loose firearms na boluntaryong naisuko ay hindi lamang accomplishment sa bilang, kundi 550 konkretong hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas at mas mapayapang mga pamayanan.”/PN
