CAPIZ — The provincial government of Capiz has started preparations for the hosting of the 2027 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet, with infrastructure, venues, accommodations, equipment, and transportation among the priorities discussed during an indicative planning conference at the Capitol’s Hall of Governors.
Gov. Fredenil H. Castro spearheaded the planning conference as the province prepares to welcome thousands of student-athletes, coaches, officials, and other members of delegations from across Western Visayas.
The tentative schedule for the regional athletic meet is March 29 to April 2, 2027, subject to final administrative confirmation.
The event is expected to draw more than 7,665 participants from five provinces in Western Visayas. Capiz is projected to field 713 athletes, coaches, assistant coaches, and chaperones, along with 113 division officials.
Early preparations will focus on upgrading billeting quarters and athletic facilities to ensure safe, comfortable, and functional venues for participating delegations.
Proposed sports venues in various municipalities have also been identified, with local government units tasked to support designated host schools and venue management.
The provincial government will also coordinate the procurement of sports equipment, accommodation for tournament officials, and transportation arrangements to ensure the smooth movement of participants during the competition.
Castro was joined by Department of Education (DepEd) Region VI Director Dr. Cristito Eco, Assistant Regional Director Miguel Mac Aposin, Schools Division of Capiz Superintendent Dr. Roel F. Bermejo, Vice Governor James Magbanua, and other provincial and education officials.
Local chief executives, government agencies, and private sector partners also expressed support for the province’s preparations for the regional sporting event.
Passi City, Iloilo hosted the 2026 WVRAA Meet from March 17 to 22, drawing nearly 7,000 athletes, coaches, and officials. Its primary venue was the Passi City Sports Complex in Barangay Bacuranan.
The 2027 hosting will require coordination among the provincial government, LGUs, DepEd, schools, and other stakeholders to prepare the facilities and logistical requirements for the participating delegations./PN
