ROXAS City – A graduate of Capiz State University (Capsu)-Pilar Campus ranked second in the September 2017 Licensure Examination for Teachers elementary level.
The 20-year-old Jonathan Garcia, resident of Barangay San Ramon, Pilar, Capiz, said he only “dreamed” getting high scores and “did not expect to land in the number 2 spot.”
Garcia has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
“I am offering this honor to my family. I did not expect that I will make it to the top 2 spot, but as what Miss Lea Salonga said, ‘expect the worst, but hope for the best’,” Garcia said.
Garcia’s mother is a tailor while his father, a fish vendor. He is the youngest among three siblings.
Garcia shared that when he was still a student, he always sees to it that his “objectives are measureable, attainable, result oriented, and time bound.”
He added that this is also the advice that the can give to others who want to excel in their endeavors.
Garcia’s feat, according to Capsu teacher Dr. Jennifer Perez-Benliro, brought “prestige and honor to his school.”
“We are very proud of him,” Perez-Benliro added
For her part, Capsu-Pilar Campus administrator Dr. Marcela Buenvenida said, “Garcia is a very humble student. He has already brought prestige to the university for winning various regional and national competitions in the field of culture and arts and science.”
Garcia won as champion in the regional science quiz bee that is part of the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities VI contests in 2014./PN
