KALIBO, Aklan – Most members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) are supporting the proposed ordinance declaring unlawful any discriminatory act or conduct toward LGBTIQ people in the province.
This was according to Board member Nemesio Neron, also a supporter of the proposal.
LGBTIQ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer.
According to Neron, more than half of the SP members have already committed to support the proposed anti-discrimination ordinance.
Among these SP members are Jay Tejada, Esel Flores, Harry Sucgang, Lilian Tirol, Jose Miguel Miraflores, Immanuel Sodusta, and Nelson Sta. Maria.
“I expect more provincial board members to show their support for the proposed ordinance. More support means greater chance to pass the proposed ordinance,” said Neron.
The 23-page draft of the proposed ordinance stated penalties that will be meted on individuals who, through their actions or conduct, discriminate members of the LGBTIQ in the province./PN
