BIÑAN, Laguna – Scoring 2-0, Ceres-Negros FC renewed its mastery of regional rival Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo in the 2019 Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium here.

Mike Ott and Jose Elmer Porteria converted a goal each on Wednesday night.

The Busmen is now closer to its third consecutive League championship with 46 points, on 15 victories and a draw.

The Ilonggos had an opportunity to take the lead at the third minute but Eric Giganto could not take advantage. Ceres-Negros seized the lead at the 15th minute as Ott smashed the ball from a Porteria assist.

Kaya-Iloilo had several chances to tie but the defense was tight until the Busmen made it a 2-0 score at the 30th minute. Porteria danced his way into the box before finishing in style into the far post.

Things got heated between the rivals late in the first half with Kaya-Iloilo’s Jordan Mintah planting an elbow on Ceres-Negros’ Manuel Herrera, was knocked unconscious and had a seizure afterwards while being treated.

Both Mintah and Herrera were slapped with red cards, diminishing both teams to 10 men in the second half.

Ceres-Negros assistant coach Ian Treyes was also sent off for complaining to the referees.
“I want to congratulate my players,” said Ceres-Negros mentor Risto Vidakovic. “They played really good today and they gave everything. We controlled the game from the first minute until the end.”

With the defeat, the Kaya Iloilo remained at second place in the standings with 37 points on 13 wins, one deadlock and a defeat./PN
