MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC aims to continue its mastery of Mendiola FC 1991 as the two teams face each other in the 2019 Philippines Football League tonight at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.

The match is slated at 7 p.m.

The Busmen hopes to improve its league-leading 34 points (11 wins and one draw). Mendiola, on the other hand, aims to regain its upset ax to increase its 10 points (three wins, eight losses and one draw).

The Negros Occidental-based football team is on a roll after winning its last 11 matches, including a 3-0 repeat over Philippine Air Force FC behind hits by Manuel Herrera, Dylan De Bruycker and Robert Lopez Mendy.

“We need to continue to play like that until the end,” Herrera said. “We know (second placer) Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo is also like that. They are also winning the same, with us having a six-point difference. So we need to continue and keep our separation.”

Ceres-Negros dominated Mendiola in the first two encounters — a 4-0 victory on two conversions from Bienvenido Marañon and another hit from former Busmen Curt Dizon and 5-2 recently on four-goal showing by Lopez Mendy.

In the first game at 4 p.m., Kaya-Iloilo hopes to score a repeat against Global Makati FC as it welcomes the return of Philippine Azkals mainstay Kenshiro Daniels to the squad.

During their lone meeting this season, the Ilonggos cruised to a 1-0 victory over Makati on a lone goal by Alfred Osei.

Kaya-Iloilo is still at second with 28 points (nine wins, one draw and two losses) while Global has four points (one win, one draw, eight losses)./PN
