Ceres-Negros, Kaya-Iloilo beat foes in PH Football League

MANILA – Ceres-Negros FC maintained its unblemished slate in the 2019 Philippines Football League by posting a 4-1 win over Mendiola FC 1991 at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa, Batangas.


Mike Ott and Robert Lopez-Mendy converted two goals each on Wednesday night.

The defending champion Busmen stays on top of the standings with 37 points, on 12 wins and a draw.


The Negros Occidental-based football team jumped to a 2-0 start with Ott nailing his first goal at the 17th minute.

Lopez Mendy followed it up with his own conversion three minutes later.


Mendiola was able to pull one back at the 30th minute mark courtesy of Alem Angeles but Ceres-Negros restored its two-goal advantage at the 41st minute on Lopez Mendy’s second goal.

The Mendiola tried its best to trim the deficit in the second half. However, it was defended well by Ceres-Negros until the latter put the final nail on the coffin at the 61st minute on Ott’s hit.

In the first game, Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo renewed its mastery of Global-Makati FC with a 2-0 beating to remain at second place with 31 points on 10 wins, one draw and two losses.

Jordan Mintah opened the scoring for Kaya-Iloilo. He took advantage of Global-Makati’s miscue at the 13th minute.The Ghanian star netted his second goal just before the halftime break on a feed by Darryl Roberts./PN
