ILOILO City – Christmas celebrations across Western Visayas were relatively peaceful, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
There were no reported incidents of stray bullet hitting anyone, illegal discharge of firearms or fires, said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, Region 6 police director.
However, said the police general, three persons were victims of firecracker blasts in the town of Pontevedra, Capiz on Dec. 21.
The victims were John Mark Bagsic, 9, of Barangay Tacas; Raymund Deocampo, 36, of Barangay Jalongajog; and Remdel Borce, 12, of Barangay Ameligan.
Gentiles said there were 21 physical injuries cases (shooting and stabbing incidents) and four vehicular accidents in the Iloilo towns of Pavia, Mina, Santa Barbara, and Oton.
“Physical injuries are very common this season of revelry,” said Gentiles.
The deployment of thousands of police personnel across the region helped keep Western Visayas peaceful and orderly, he said.
“We hope to maintain this up to the New Year. We appeal to the public to celebrate the holidays peaceful and orderly,” said Gentiles./PN
