CIDG operatives entrap gunrunning suspect

ILOILO City – A gunrunning suspect was arrested yesterday in Barangay Balabag, Dumangas, Iloilo in an entrapment operation.

At around 8:50 a.m., operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6 collared Rhemhon Dumancas, 36, of Barangay Patlad, Dumangas.

A poseur buyer bought from the suspect a .38 revolver for P4,900, said CIDG-6 director, Colonel Joseph Ian Lofranco.

“Agad tayo nagsagawa ng operation after may natanggap tayong information about him,” Lofranco said.

The suspect was detained at the Dumangas police station.

Lofranco said Dumancas would be charged with illegal gun possession, a violation of Republic Act 10591, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Last week, July 19, the police arrested a gunrunning suspect, too. The 28-year-old Jieben Villanueva of Barangay Sto. Rosario Duran, City Proper fell in an entrapment operation in Barangay San Jose, Arevalo district around 5:05 p.m.

An undercover police officer of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) bought from the suspect a .45 pistol (Serial No. 276213) for P11,900.

Cops further recovered two ammunition for the .45 pistol and a combat knife.

According to Police Staff Sergeant Larry Cabañal of the ICPO intelligence unit, the suspect was placed under surveillance for more than a week prior to the entrapment./PN
