SAN JOSE, Antique – Basura Patrollers have identified seven towns with scattered garbage at the plaza, public market, national roads, or other public places during a “waste mapping” last year.
These municipalities will be subject to cleaning during the National Cleanup Day on Friday.
Communities, concerned agencies and nongovernment organizations, among others, are participating.
Josephine Maguad of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Antique said the cleanup, or the “Bayan Ko, Linis Ko” program, is a quarterly activity in compliance with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act and other related laws.
Specific areas needing cleanup include Poblacion, Tibiao; Poblacion, Culasi; Aguila, Sebaste; Centro Norte, Pandan; Poblacion, Libertad; Cubay Napultan and Bongsod in Sibalom; and Caridad, Guinsang-an and Poblacion in Hamtic, said Maguad.
Basura Patrollers’ monitoring covers only public places like markets, parks/plazas, roadsides, canals/esteros, and sidewalks, among others.
Engr. Lito Pameroyan of the National Irrigation Administration called on households along irrigations to participate.
The residents were urged to stop throwing garbage to irrigation canals as they obstruct waterways. (PIA/PN)
