NEGROS Occidental — A 42-year-old construction worker died while his backrider sustained injuries after their motorcycle crashed into a roadside traffic sign along a curved section of the road in Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City on Saturday evening, August 1.
Police identified the fatality by his alias “Jungen,” a resident of the city’s Sitio Lower Balicaocao, Barangay Orong. He was declared dead on arrival at the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital.
According to the Kabankalan City Police Station, the crash occurred around 8 p.m. in Purok Plasanon, Barangay Salong.
Initial police investigations revealed that a resident, identified as alias “Jona,” heard a loud impact outside her residence. Upon checking, she and her son discovered a motorcycle that had slammed into a traffic sign along the curve.
Recognizing the victim as a construction worker who had previously worked for her family, Jona alerted the victim’s daughter and immediately sought assistance from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
CDRRMO emergency responders rushed both the rider and his unnamed backrider to the hospital. Attending physicians declared the driver dead on arrival, while his passenger was admitted and remained under medical observation as of this writing./PN
