BACOLOD City – Appropriate and reflectorized traffic markings and signage must be put up on all roads under repair, the Sangguniang Panlungsod said.
Such warning devices help avoid accidents, said the councilors.
The city council passed a resolution requesting the Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTAO) and the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to install such devices.
Various road repairs are ongoing in the city, said Councilor Ricardo Tan, author of the resolution.
The local government must see to it the roads are “hazard-free” and accidents can be avoided, the councilor said.
“The BTAO and the CEO are tasked to monitor and regulate road hazards by putting the necessary signage to warn the public of possible [danger],” he said.
TRAFFIC WOES
Meanwhile the city council passed another resolution asking the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to deploy more traffic enforcers to enforce all local and national traffic rules and regulations.
Under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines, the LTO must apprehend drivers for any traffic rule violation, said Councilor Em Ang, author of the resolution.
Ang claimed there was an “alarming increase” in traffic accidents “caused by motorists perennially violating traffic laws and regulations.”
“To help instill order and discipline among pedestrians and motorists, and improve the flow of traffic, there is a need for the strict enforcement of all existing local and national traffic rules and regulations,” she said./PN
