BACOLOD City – Personnel of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) who survived the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) donated blood for their convalescent plasma.
Police Lieutenant Wilma Silva, NOCPPO Public Information officer, said 12 fully recovered NOCPPO police personnel participated in the blood donation drive dubbed as “Plasma mo, Armas Ko Batuk sa COVID-19” held at the PRO6 Satellite Office, Camp Alfredo M Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City.
Provincial police chief Colonel Romy Palgue thanked the Corazon Corazon Locsin Memorial Regional Hospital Blood Bank who partnered with NOCPPO in the said activity.
Of the 12 COVID-19 fully recovered survivors at NOCPPO, four passed the tests and qualified for plasma convalescent from their donated blood.
According to the World Health Organization and the Department of Health (DOH), the convalescent plasma of the persons who have recovered from the said disease contains antibodies that can be transferred to the critically ill COVID-19 patients.
The whole blood extracted were processed to separate the solid particles of the blood from plasma which is the liquid portion where the plasma will then be transfused into a severely infected COVID-19 patient to help him fight the disease, which is known as convalescent plasma therapy.
Palgue assured Negrenses that in the midst of pandemic police troops and other agencies will never pause for a rest and is ready to respond to the call to fight COVID19 and that “we heal as one.”
To date, the 13 uniformed police officers and one non-uniformed personnel who were declared COVID-19 positive have fully recovered and are now back to work.
NOCPPO, according to Silva, is COVID-free as of September 28. (With a report from PIA/PN)
