MANILA – The College of Saint Benilde (CSB) Lady Blazers are in the semifinals of the NCAA Season 95 Women’s Volleyball after a 25-22, 25-12, 25-20 sweep over Jose Rizal University (JRU) Lady Bombers at the San Juan Arena on Feb. 7.
Rookies Gayle Pascual and Mycah Go bannered the Lady Blazers with eight markers each, while Michelle Gamit and opposite hitter Klarisa Abriam chipped in seven markers apiece to flow the team’s elimination round campaign to a 7-0 win-loss streak.
However, the victory was not as flawless as it may have sounded for the Lady Blazers have committed 25 errors that paved room for the Lady Bombers to be within striking distance with their opponents in some stretches.
“‘Yung mindset namin is ‘yung for the last two games sana pulido pa rin ‘yung galaw ng mga bata,” Lady Blazers assistant coach Jay Chua. “Better din po na ‘yung anim namin [sa court], lahat po nakaka-contribute. Nakakapag-step up naman sila.”
Setter Renesa Melgar ended as JRU’s top-scorer with eight points, while Dolly Verzosa added seven markers. The Lady Bombers dropped to a 3-5 record.
Meanwhile, San Beda University Lady Red Spikers stave off the University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 25-20, 25-19, 25-16 to force a deadlock at third place in the standings at 5-2.
Francesca Racraquin continued to put up MVP-like numbers of 18 points on 13 attacks, three aces, and two blocks, while Nieza Viray added 14 points, 11 came from attacks, for the Lady Red Spikers./PN
