BACOLOD City – Davies Paints Philippines, Royal Star Trading and University of St. La Salle-Fyr Fyter cruised to 2-0 start in the 1st United Negros Basketball League 25 under Open Tournament over the weekend at the Luis T. Ong Sports Pavilion here.
Davies Paints Philippines opened their campaign with a 97-78 domination over CSAB/Strived Sportswear with Ken Jay Sarco leading the way for the winning team with 26 points.
John Louie Mermida also made his presence felt with 19 points, Kent Macalalag dropped 12 points, while Timothy Villanueva, Mark Ray Dubouzet and JB Co combined for 21 markers for Davies.
Mycco Deposoy, meanwhile, paced CSAB/Strived with 19 points, Kenneth Malazarte and Mico Exaltado added 16 and 14 markers, respectively, while Rowel Negro and AJ Ondon ended with 10 markers each.
University of St. La Salle-Fyr Fyter, on the other hand, prevailed over OBI Knights, 96-64, with Bonn Ernest Daja leading the way with 14 points and Riggy Alinsoring and Jim Jimiera ending with 10 markers apiece.
USLS established a 29-13 lead in the opening quarter before they pulled away further from OBI Knights in the second quarter with seven triples for a 56-36 halftime lead and never looked back.
Royal Star Trading, for their part, dominated KDR Perfecto in the second half en route to a lopsided 75-57 victory. John Lloyd Licawan top-scored with 14 points, while Janlee Torrecampo added 10 markers.
Davies Paints, USLS and Royal Star Trading notched their second win at the expense of KDR Perfecto (85-68), JSY Transport (62-44) and CSAB/Strived Sportswear (69-64), respectively.
But prior to their defeat to USLS, JSY Transport scored an 80-76 victory over Visayan Maritime Academy. Jessie Amago led JSY with 23 points, Elmer Orano and Raymund Umayao contributed 16 and 15 points, respectively.
JEYDI K Waterproofing, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a 76-69 victory over OBI Knights.
This is the second tournament sponsored by the UNBL this year after the successful staging of the UNBL Aspirants Basketball Cup last February and March that drew 16 squads./PN
