MANILA – Negrense boxer Roldan Aldea retained the Philippine Games and Amusements Board lightweight title with a unanimous decision win over Leonardo Doronio over the weekend at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.
The Kabankalan, Negros Occidental-native Aldea showed his dominance since the opening round as he pummeled Doronio with multiple punches en route to a one-sided 17-111, 118-110, 119-109 victory.
According to Aldea, he already anticipated that his match against Doronio would go the distance so he focused his preparation on maintaining his stamina to keep in step with his foe for 12 rounds.
“Alam naman natin na matibay talaga si Leonardo kaya talagang pinaghandaan ko na aabot ng 12 rounds ang laban namin,” Aldea said in an interview with Elorde TV. “Nung hindi ko siya nadale sa early rounds, ang ginawa ko is minaintain ko na lang yung pace.”
“More than two months ang naging preparation ko para sa laban na ito kasi dapat lalaban ako sa abroad kaso hindi natuloy pero napaganda na rin kasi naging mas mahaba ‘yung paghahanda ko kay Leonardo,” he added.
This was the third successful title defense of the 29-year-old Aldea as he also put himself back on the winning track after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Australian Kayne Clarke last year.
It was also last year when Aldea was put as WBA Asia super featherweight champion in recess as he was unable to defend the belt to fellow Filipino Charly Suarez due to an injury.
With the victory, Aldea has improved his boxing record to 18-9-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including 10 stoppage wins. Doronio saw his slate dropped to 18-22-3, with 11 knockout wins.
Ramcie Mondala, meanwhile, cruised to its third consecutive victory as he scored a unanimous decision triumph against fellow Filipino Zandy Patiran in the co-main event of the bout promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde.
In other results, debutant Paul Alera won by split decision against Herovan Beltran, Joshua Manago also debuted with a unanimous decision win over Suzerain Licot and Jerrico Tanate also beat Noriel de Chavez./PN
